This competition was first held in 2019 and is one of many projects launched by La Liga league to support the development of Chinese youth football.
Yang Weiling, deputy mayor of Kunming city, and the Spanish counsellor of government affairs in China, Edward Carrasco, attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches, expressing strong support for this event.

In the first “LALIGA Hope Cup” successfully held in 2019, Barcelona football club won the championship. This summer, the event returned to Kunming again and was held on August 26-30. Six U16 clubs from La Liga will face six Chinese local U16 teams.
